CASTAL is funded by OSCARS project in the framework of the Horizon Europe Programme - Grant Agreement 101129751
Start date:
01 October 2024
Project duration:
24 months
Partners:
Knowledge and Innovation Srls - K&I (coordinator)
University of Milan-Bicocca through DASSI - Data Archive for Social Sciences in Italy (data curation)
Challenge
Despite producing a massive corpus of knowledge on Local Sustainability Transition LST in Europe, there are still several difficulties in its real exploitation for further research purposes: the fragmentation of knowledge and data; the lack of archives to store and preserve knowledge and data produced; the lack of sufficient attempts to organise data collected and knowledge produced across cases; the difficulty of cumulating data on the same cases from different studies.
Solution
Through the creation of the Case Studies Atlas on LST, CASTAL aims to provide, through a dedicated web portal, an accessible and updatable tool containing basic information, summaries and links to approximately 500 case studies.
Scientific Impacts
The CASTAL Atlas is intended as a tool for supporting and developing the scientific knowledge according to three different levels: Advancing Open Science; Advancing the Capacity to study Local Sustainability Transitions (LST); Advancing the knowledge on specific topics of LST. The project will promote secondary studies using CASTAL as a data source and develop web services and guidelines for updating the Atlas.
